
The museum's emphasis is on the early Indian of the Carolina's, where over a period of 12,000 years, 45 different Indian cultures have existed. there present-day descendants include the tribes of the Cherokee, Coharies, Tuscaroras, Waccamaw-Siouans, and Catawbas. North Carolina has the largest Indian population in the eastern United States. to compare these groups with other tribes, the museum includes exhibits of Indian artifacts and tribal customs from other parts of the United States.
